Broschüre der Werkstatt Baukultur (German)

At the beginning of the 1950s, the American High Commissioner of Germany (HICOG) ordered the construction of three housing estates in what is now the city of Bonn. The two estates on the dune in Tannenbusch and south of the center of Bad Godesberg, each with a striking high-rise building, were planned for German employees of the occupying power. In Plittersdorf, on the other hand, apartments were built for American employees, a “little America on the Rhine” with its own suburban infrastructure. The buildings at all three locations bear the signature of architect Sep Ruf, who later designed the famous Chancellor’s Bungalow in Bonn.
